JUDGING CRITERIA

 

TECHNICAL
The technical judging criteria includes difficulty and control of tricks and combinations performed, smooth transitions, and floor moves. All competitors should display good control, strength, flexibility, extensions, and aerobic endurance through well executed movements. Competitors will have their technical component judged through the following:


Variation (10 Points)
Competitors should display a wide range of tricks without excessive repetition of same moves and different body shapes. Judges will be looking for all around diversity of moves (e.g. floor moves, aerial tricks, spins, use of stage space and pole/aerial height, standing, kneeling, lying on back).


Doubles Pole- Competitors should execute moves, poses/holds, tricks, and combinations on separate poles and same pole. Scores will be higher if partners will switch as flyer/base.


Transitions (10 Points)
Competitors will be judged based on good continuity or flow of moves and combinations,directional changes on and off the apparatus, spinning orientation, and creative linking of movements.


Doubles Pole- Use of different setups (entries/exits) during flyer/base movements, tricks,and combinations.


Strength and Endurance (10 Points)
Competitors will be judged on their physical capability, focusing on strength and endurance.
Strength: Assessed based on the ability to maintain form in poses, tricks, and combinations, particularly those with low contact points, release moves, and controlled momentum (e.g., Fonji, handspring grip switches, flips).


Endurance: Evaluated on maintaining good form and appearing effortless throughout the whole routine. Visible signs of fatigue or struggle will result in lower scores.


Flexibility (10 Points)
Competitors will be evaluated on their level of flexibility, focusing on the range of motion and fluidity in their movements. Judges will assess flexibility in splits, backbends, and other poses requiring extensive stretching. Competitors should exhibit smooth transitions and control while showcasing their flexibility.

 

Lines and Extensions (10 Points)
Judges will look for clean lines (e.g., pointed toes or intentional flex, extension through inner thighs, straight knees, appropriate posture) and visually pleasing, creative shapes in the competitor’s tricks. Form should not disrupt the flow or technique of tricks in both static and spinning combinations.

ARTISTIC
The artistic judging criteria include the competitors’ performance of their routine that displays great artistic expression, musicality, timing, showmanship, interpretation of the whole routine, and creative choreography. Competitors will be judged based on the following:


Originality (10 Points)
Competitors will be judged on the originality and uniqueness of their concept and moves. This includes presenting new, innovative, or creative ideas in their routine's theme and music choice, as well as unique combinations and tricks that set their performance apart.


Musicality (10 Points)
This refers to the awareness and incorporation of various musical elements (rhythm, beats, accents, crescendos, etc.) during the performance of dance moves, tricks, and combinations. It includes the creativity in synchronizing movements with the music.

 

Choreography (10 Points)
Competitors should display innovation in their sequences on and off the apparatus. The choreography should be thoughtfully constructed to complement the music, theme, or storyline, resulting in a cohesive and engaging routine.


Interpretation (10 Points)
Dance moves, tricks, combinations, props, and costumes should clearly express emotions and enhance the storyline or theme of the routine. The overall movement should effectively convey mood and atmosphere.


Stage Presence (10 Points)
Competitors will be judged on their ability to express emotions, project energy, and maintain character throughout the routine. Showmanship, charisma, and the ability to connect with the audience are key elements of stage presence.


TOTAL = 100 POINTS


DEDUCTIONS
Deductions are only given based on the following:
1 Point Deduction:
- Intentionally or unintentionally touching the rigging or hanging off the truss system
- Discontinuation of a Move/ Failed Attempt
- Misgrips, slips


2 Points Deduction:
- accidental wardrobe malfunctions that disturb the flow of the performance.
- Major falls or losing one’s balance


DISQUALIFICATIONS
•    Application of grip aids directly to poles 
•    Violation of costume coverage wherein intimate parts are uncovered, costume pieces that may damage the poles, costumes with glitters
•    Swinging (in any direction) of the apparatus
•    Violation of rules stated in the rules and guidelines section
•    Violation of any theater rules
